Meet Our Team
Tutor Doctor Indianapolis
Our Tutors
At Tutor Doctor Indy, we carefully recruit and select top tutors who fully believe in our mission to change the trajectory of students’ lives. Our tutors are professionals that understand every student learns differently and their role is to support, mentor and uplift each student on their academic journey.
Our team has a wide-range of backgrounds and skill-sets, which means we are confident we have tutors for every type of learner! Our Tutor Doctor Indy tutors have a minimum of a high-school diploma and have achieved or are in the process of achieving a higher education degree. Our tutors all live in our local community, including Indianapolis and the surrounding areas, many who are current students at local universities such as IUPUI and Butler University, while others are business professionals, including teachers, professors, engineers, and lawyers.
Tutor Doctor Indy tutors are:
- Content Experts: Our tutors have a deep understanding of the subjects they teach. We carefully discuss with each tutor their subject strengths and how that translates to teaching others.
- Professional: Our tutors understand the importance of proactively communicating, committing to the agreed upon session days/times and providing an informative session report detailing what was covered in each tutoring session.
- Caring: Our tutors love to help others! They understand that each student learns differently and that different teaching methods need to be employed for each student to achieve those “lightbulb” moments!
Angela Dougherty
Tutor Experience Manager
Hi, I’m Angela. My role focuses on recruiting talented and professional tutors who have both subject-matter expertise, as well as an acute understanding and appreciation for the uniqueness of how each student learns.
I have over 10 years of experience in education, focused in multiple different areas. I hold a BS in Secondary Education from Central Michigan University and a MS in Leadership from Trine University. I taught for two years at the middle-school level as a 6th and 8th grade English and History teacher at both Carmel Clay Schools and MSD Warren Township. Afterwards, I went on to work at the Indiana Department of Education where I was the Coordinator of Indiana’s English Learning (EL) and Migrant Education Programs. I then worked for Vincennes University in Indianapolis as a Grant Manager, overseeing, and securing multiple federal, state, and local grants aimed at providing short-term educational training programs for adult learners.
As an educator, I have first-hand experience and a deep understanding for the significant impact that one-on-one instruction and mentoring play in a student’s improved academics and self-esteem. Having the privilege to be a part of the Tutor Doctor Indy team has allowed me to utilize my years of experience in education to focus on each individual learner, understand and analyze their academic needs and identify the right support necessary for them to be successful. I have a strong commitment to a high-level of excellence and an unmatched client experience– this means Tutor Doctor Indy clients can be assured their student’s individual learning needs will always be a priority when selecting a tutor and providing the necessary ongoing support for their child’s educational journey.
